Costa Vicentina on an Indian summer

Costa Vicentina on an Indian summer

Summer in Portugal starts late and ends late, in autumn. Summer here gets to enjoy the autumn’s golden light. It’s what we know as Indian summer.

We always reserve some weekends at this time of the year to go to the beach and soak up the last warm sunrays.

One Friday we headed to Costa Vicentina.

Costa Vicentina is the place to drive and slow down the car because really, why the rush to get anywhere when you’re right next to the ocean? There are caravanas and surfboards on every beach. The villages are quiet. The Atlantic is restless. Fish and seafood should be one’s only diet.

We’ve been here so many times and we can never get enough of the tranquility of these places. There are several beaches we wrote about in previous articles:

A guide to some of the best beaches in Portugal

Short escape to Algarve – where two go to

We left home in the afternoon and made a pitstop for this orange show.

Saturday we picked Praia da Amoreira from early morning to late in the afternoon.

We closed the day with dinner to O Paulo restaurant on a cliff. We booked a table right by the window to enjoy yet another golden hour. Some things on the menu that we had and that we thoroughly recommend: the octopus salad, the fish soup, the grilled squids and the lemon pie.

On Sunday, we wanted to check in Praia de Odeceixe, but being quite chilly in the morning, we drove back to Lisbon and stopped at Praia de Melides where the breeze is calmer.

End of weekend escape. You should try it too 🙂
